Caitlyn and Srey are your true DC couple – transplants to the city who have made it their home together and were excited to share their city with their guests (many of whom traveled to celebrate with them). I knew I wanted to work together when I learned that Caitlyn is a UX and UI designer and entrepreneur herself.
This spring wedding in mid-April heralded in the spring to summer season of DC – the trees were fully leafed, comfortable temperatures (we love the 72 degree season here!) and that hopeful, vibrant energy that only spring can bring. It was the perfect season for their soiree.
One thing that really made this event memorable is the fusion of families – Srey being Indian-American. While Saturday celebrated their American culture, it was a full weekend affair, starting with their Indian ceremony and Sangeet on Friday. We can’t wait to share more about that vibrant affair next!
the design
Caitlyn is a designer, so naturally she undertook the task of designing and printing her invitations. And no, I’m not talking about an “invitation in the box” from Michaels. I’m talking venue illustration, letterpress and wax seals. The results perfectly set the tone for their understated luxe affair.
As a designer myself, I try to encourage my couples to “have fun with the linen”. So often when couples think about straying from whites and ivories they picture a kelly green linen (and squirm). But there are so many gorgeous hues that are bold and subdued – meaning: yes, you can absolutely pull it off. And it will create a stunning design. I loved that they bought in and chose pattern. How about the geometric and metallic touches in their linens? Without further ado, from concept to execution ….
the vendors
After perusing many of DC’s sought after venues, Caitlyn gravitated towards the historic luxe aura of Anderson House. In her words, she loved the idea of her guests being wined and dined in one of DC’s most exclusive museums, and as this was a destination for many guests, a truly illustrious “welcome to our city”. While the interiors are baroque and grand, Anderson House’s gardens evoke their own gorgeously Parisian setting.
The entire vendor team came together to produce a fabulous, chic soiree. One vendor that was very important to C+S was having live entertainment as Srey is a musician himself. Their musicality was definitely threaded throughout the evening in their curated selections from the best of classic rock. We’re talking Steeler’s Wheel, Fleetwood Mac and Elton John. Let’s say the evening was rocking – all the way to their last song (Queen’s “You can’t stop me now”.)
