This shoot might be one of my favorite shoots to date. Why? Because it reminded me to take risks and to go bold in design, with small details to tie it all together.
The protea stole the show for sure. Never heard of them before? They are a glorious tropical flower, shockingly soft petals, and definitely avant garde. I displayed them in geometric lanterns, which created a striking tablescape. To me, design is all in the contrast. I’ve been dying to incorporate olive branches, and though you don’t often see them paired with proteas, I think that needs to change! Olive sprigs accented the place setting and created a gorgeous garland down the dramatic banquet table. And I have to mention my final favorite — softly colored tapers. When I set them out, I loved the look, but when lit that is when the magic happened.
The venue, Madison at the Mill, with its brick walls, gorgeously worn hardwoods, and farm tables creates quite a modern, industrial, and cozy environment. I highly recommend checking them out!
